Your title and cover are tremendous. Your content is even better.
Your book is truly tremendous.
We received the books and have sent out all of them.
Everyone agrees, you have written a classic.
Tremendously,
Charles T Jones (April 2, 2008)
Dear Terry,
Thank you so much from my heart for writing this most heart touching book and distributing to the world. This is a true help to the society and man kind. I just do not get words to express my feelings. The best book so far I have read (my wife has read it partially by grabbing when I was not reading, and now will be completing this soon). No praise is enough.
All the quotes mentioned in the book are worth a million. The quote of last page is my quote from my experience as a Teacher (my first profession). After completing the book, I truly felt that this book was written for me to wake up and to best utilize the remaining life on a daily basis keeping the long term visions as passion. Thank you again for all the impact you made in my life.
With great regards,
Ajay
Hi Terry,
I was stunned by this book. It was a very powerful book. We have the same concept of life in some ways. I was most drawn by the part with your son and the incentive you gave about reading for the reward of money. I have a simmular situation with my son and I will try that. I know for a fact it will work, because it work for you.
Also when you mention how much you pray to God. My Husband pray everyday many times of the day. He tells me sometimes: You know, I dont even think God listen to me anymore. Some days words would come out of his mouth that I normaly dont hear or didn't think that he would have even said.
Sometimes you are at the end of a string and the string just seems to be getting thinner and thinner everyday. The hope and prayers still goes on no matter what happens. We have four children and we are from Guyana. This is my real first composed e-mail I ever sent. So you see what your story have done to me.
Thank you for inspiring me.
Bry
Dear Terry,
I am 23 year old college student and an entrepreneur. I finished reading your book a few days back and I have just started reading it for the second time (I typically speed read the book the first time then go back to it a day later with a highlighter and pen to make notes). But from what I have read so far, here is what I have learned:
1) How to prioritize my time and efforts effectively with the P.E.M system. For the past few days I have broken my daily calendar into the 15 minute intervals you mention and I found that my productivity almost doubled. Today I work as a project engineer working anywhere between 12 to 18 hours per day, I am also a student finishing up my degree in mechanical engineering, and I run a business. Now prior to me reading this book I had issues on time management and creating effective results. I have always been a focused and determined person but I believe this book has given me a slight edge over anyone else. I am able to control my work, take care of my health (I workout an hour a day), study, and run my business without wearing myself out. Now to an individual standing outside I may look like a total lunatic (and I have had several people comment on me being a work-a-holic) but in reality I found a lot of time being wasted in useless and meaningless clutter. By following the simple P.E.M system I am just another example on how to utilize my time properly. I believe that every human being that does this excercise will find a lot of time spent either gossiping, watching TV, or simply thinking about all the things they have to do without a clear cut gameplan for their day. God has given us all 24 hours, what we do in that time is what will determine our level of success.
2) I am a firm believer of the power of the spoken word and positive self talk. However, I realized that I was speaking victory only into my business but never into all the other aspects of life (health, spiritual, lifestyle, monetary, relationships, and character). I started adding these other areas into my self talk, as a matter of fact I made a CD of myself speaking these affirmations and I play it on my CD player every night. I now notice when I wake up I am automatically energized, and my subconscious is loaded with positive stuff. No one can shake my tree or dump garbage into my brain. I have finally reached the level of being emotionally stable and not wavering like a yo-yo (one minute up and the next minute down) when something good or bad happens.
3) And last, I love the conversation you have with God. I also broke into laughter after trying this out for the first time but as I let the conversation continue I could actually feel God's wisdom and infinite knowledge flowing. I got absolutely fired up! For once I could actually ask Him on how to handle certain situations and challenges. I, like you, assumed Him to be the most loving, caring and forgiving person I know and it worked. I got the answers to some of my situations and I can see miracles happening.
I really appreciate you for writing this book and I know there is more to be learned. And of course, the best is yet to come! God bless you and your family.
Warm regards,
Karthik
Terry Gogna, Wow what a simply stunning and eye opening book, How can I get myself to do what I need to do? I wanted to make note that I met you at a convention here in Dallas at the Fairmont Hotel, for Proyecto Libertad and although it was difficult to start the book but once I read Ch. 4 Slay or Sleep with your Giant, I thought man that’s me, putting off studying and working out until the last minute, just to say I'll just do it tomorrow. So I will definitely read it again and again to completely grasp all of your coaching in detail. My favourite three topics about your book were the following:
1.) How to defeat Procrastination: Develop the right mindset, create a consequence if activity is not finished and create a reward if it is finished. Also I remember (don’t waste time doing paperwork, focus on stuff with a deadline).
2.) Also there is no difference between a hero and an average Joe, the only thing is the hero was braver 5 minutes longer than everyone else, thus becoming victorious.
3.) Create a consequence, for making yourself do that which you need to do. If you can’t do what you need to do for yourself do it for somebody else, ex: "tell kids if I get this done, I will take you guys out for pizza this afternoon". Make someone else accountable, ex: "Give your friend $200 and tell him not to return the money until you get that certain something done." Once again thanks for all of your words of wisdom, and all of the stories of your heroes such as your father, Gladiator, James Braddock, and others. Can’ wait to hear back from you, and have a blessed day.
Jesse
Dear Mr. Terry,
Good Day. I read your book "How can I get myself to do what I need to do?" It’s terrific. It made me realize a lot of errors I was doing till now. Thanks a lot for that friend. We love you.

Terry, I just finished your book, and I can name the most important thing that I learned from your book, and that is present-based activities vs. future-based activities. It really hit home with me only because we are watching people make decisions like these on a daily basis, and now I can explain to them (if they care) why it is important, and what they have to look forward to, if they don't make a change.
On a side note, me and my husband are very much looking forward to seeing you this weekend at the Team INA event in Sacramento :)
I am very glad that I read your book, because now it makes sense in my brain what I need to make sure that I do to make myself successful, because time will fly away if I don't schedule it.
I'm sure that I learned other things, too, but I'll read it again, and they will point themselves out to me. This point just really hit home with me, and thank you for identifying it!!
Have a great week, and we'll see you on Saturday!

Hello Terry, Greetings from Bijaya.
It was nice reading your book "How can I get myself to do what I need to do?" At the age of 57 engaged in the Non-Government Organisation- working for the tribal communities in Orissa, India with an additional task in my part-time business; it in-fact gave me an opportunity to read through the book which opens my eyes---- those cannot be expressed through words. As desired so, it is very difficult to note three learning’s at the moment, but I strongly feel and realise that procrastination has become an inbuilt habit in my day to day life to shunt me down from progress.
Procrastination has come to me in all kinds of activities those with I am involved in like the insects rot on the crops. In reality it has become a part and parcel of my life. Every time I plan for a new thing to do, immediately I postpone the work for a moment or so - thereby I never accomplish the work. It happens very slowly that I cannot remember exact date of occurrence. I could not realise it deeply until I got through your book this month. It is time now to fight internally to eradicate completely the habit of procrastination. I believe the planner would help me much to overcome the chronic disease- Procrastination.
With kind regards.
Yours truly
Bijaya
Dear Mr. Terry,
Thank you writing the wonderful book, "How can I get myself to do what I need to do?". I recently read the book and found it very useful for myself and it is proving to be a tool which I have been able to use in my organization for better results.
The most important learning for me has been the elements described by you for getting oneself to work. I am now more focussed on my dreams and I get motivated and back on track using and visualizing my "Gladiator Statement".
Thanks a lot. Have a nice day.
Fired Up, Pradeep
dear terry
my name is ranjit and i live in ludhiana - punjab - india. i am running an investigating agency and my wife is a lecturer. we are amway distributors plugged with brittworldwide education system. i seriously regret not having read this book earlier. before reading this book i was stuck up at one stagnant position in my business, family and amway business. the three things which i liked and i know are going to be instrumental in my growth are:
1. Chapter 1. - The hidden principle of success.
before reading the book i was busy and wondering why despite such hard work i am not getting anywhere nearer to my dream. now i know i was busy mostly in doing present based events. identifying future based event and then zeroing in on one root event has increased my efficiency and productivity many folds. i am getting phenominal results already.
2. Chapter 11. - Create your own personal " success environment"..
I have read many books on subconscious mind. latest being - the secret.. i knew the princile and the law of attraction. i even used to do self talk. but didn't get desired results. but the way u explained how to practically write down the affirmative statements has answered a lot unanswered querries. since i started practising my own affirmative statements as illustrated by you, i have got enormous focus and energy to accomplish what is needed.
3. Chapter 12. - there is no such thing as a secure job or business, there are only secure people.
in this chapter i learnt about strategic formulas. till sometime back i was only focussing on the pains and i was not getting anywhere. after i read - the secret, i started focussing on my dreams instead. but the way you advised on consequence, accountability, hero and gladiayor statement is very helpful. i finished the book yesterday onlu and i know for certain that these things are going to make the difference and i already am feeling myself closer to m,y goal.
thanx. regards

Dear Mr. Terry,
I started reading this book today by 10.30am and finished jut now by 1.00am in a day. I realized the mistakes i did, the are so many things i actually learned:
1. SLAY OR SLEEP WITH GIANT.
2. SELF DISCOVERY
3. HOW TO DO MULTIASKING.........
THANKS & REGARDS, RAJ
Terry,
I am writing to you because "The wise apply the knowledge they acquire, the intellectuals merely store it.--Terry Gogna" and I want to be wise. Therefore, I am applying what I learned in your book.
I just finished your book How can I get myself to do what I need to do?and I really enjoyed it. In fact, it couldn't have come into my life at a better time. I now have a freshman in college. She got a golf scholarship and is playing for her college team. I have an intellectually and artistically gifted daughter who also swims the butterfly as a sophomore for her high school junior varsity team. My wife and I are both Registered Nurses (RNs). I have a business via Amway North America / Quixtar. I am writing a book right now. I work out at a local gym and referee soccer. You might get the idea that I need some time management. Well, you wouldn't, but others would. I just need to better manage my events.
The top three most important things that I learned from your book and how they helped me personally and/or professionally. There is a lot of great information in your book. I'll have to think about this more.
1. There is no such thing as time management. Whew! What a revelation! I knew this but I didn't know that I knew it. I hope that makes sense. I will begin creating / managing my events in a more time efficient manner, in a more productive way. I'll be using your planner as soon as I get it. I am absolutely positive I will have better control of my days and events. I am sure I'll actually get more done and be a little less lazy. My wife will love that!
2. I will begin using the PEM template on page 25. Yes, I ordered the PEM System planner. I've used other planners and while they are good, they were cumbersome with the time restraint. You've taken that away.
3. Here's where you definitely touched me. My Characteraffirmations (page 101). I read these last week and thought I had most of them covered. Tonight, as I prepare to discuss in an "overview" of your book to my team, I realized I actually don't have these traits. I'm close on a few of them, but I'm really far away from most of them. I know I can change my habits and I know how to do it. I'm changing my personality, my character, by starting to read these affirmations every day for the next thirty days. I look forward to sharing the progress with you.
4. I will write to you again after I've re-read your book which I've set an alarm in my phone to remind me to start reading in thirty days.
Terry, thank you so much for a wonder book and a fresh perspective. I look forward to the changes in me and I know they are coming.
Graciously yours,
Dennis
Dear Terry,
I finished your book a few weeks ago, getting ready to read it again. Thank you for your passion! My top most important things I learned from you are: slay your giant, don’t sleep with him, and the Gladiator statement. I immediately wrote my own statement and it was incredibly empowering; it’s now typed and out where I can see it everyday.
The ‘slay your giant’ is a great visual that can help people get rid of guilt and procrastination. And do that one thing at the beginning of the day, and not carry it around with them, nor take it to bed with them. Procrastinating will NEVER be the same for me!
I have 3 grown sons and I just adore them. I am always the mother and teacher, and occasionally I write an email to teach them something I’ve read, or impart something that I feel will be of benefit to them. Email is a blessing and a curse, and we all get information- over-load. It isn’t always the best form of communication when I am trying to impart wisdom to these young men. A few months ago, it came to me. Why would I continue to send emails that may or may not get read? I decided to write to them…like in a book, not just save emails and bind them in a plastic binder. I have thought many times about writing a book in the past, but really had no topic. I am very grateful that God has allowed me to discover I really can write a book. A book that can benefit many people. So, I thank you for facilitating my writing, because you have helped me to grow and change.
By the way, I love quotes, and I learned some new ones from your book, thank you. I would like to share one of my favorites with you. I have seen it only a few times, author is unknown: “What I do today is important because I am trading a day of my life for it.”
Most Sincerely,
Aleta
Hello Terry,
My name is Edgar, I just finished reading Your Book "How can i get myself to do what i need to do?" and i am writing to you just to say thank you. i am 18 years old and I have my own network marketing business, but for the last couple or months i have been stuck. For some reason i just could not get myself to do what i needed to do. When i received your book and saw the title, i knew it was exactly what i needed, and it was. Already i can feel the energy and Enthusiasm to do what i need to do. Like you mention, i also had my walls filled with pictures of things i wanted, but that just wasn't enough. I decided to try a few different formulas and now with my Gladiator Statement, i reed it every time i need to do something and it works. So once more Thank you Terry,
Edgar
Hello Terry,
Your book was so interesting that I read it in one day.
The three things that stuck with me was to...
1. Snap my fingers when I want to make a prospect call.
2. Focus on the future-based events.
3. Not to sleep with the Giant.
Your knowledge and insight is very much appreciated.
Best regards, Silvester
My name is Shena and I read your book titled "How to Get MYSELF what I Need to do." It was such a great read because I am a College student and had trouble with getting things accomplished. Thank You Terry Gogna for your incredible insight about success, procrastination, and hard work. Nevertheless, I will used your quotes, words and ideas to some of my counselors, peers, and students. (if that's okay) and I will proudly recommend your book!
Thank You Once again
Shena
Hello Mr. Gogna,
First of all, I want to thank you for publishing such an AMAZING book! I appreciate you compiling your knowledge and wisdom into a book for others to read and follow.
The first thing I received from the book was the reminder that I live my life for one person--God! I remember reading the awesome quote "Imagine if God asked you this question: 'Why should I give you another year or month or week or even another day of life on earth; what do you plan on doing with it?” This quote really had me thinking about my life in the past. "Am I living a meaningful life? Am I living on purpose?" Honestly, at times the answer was no. This moment of realization was a very spiritual time for me. I spent lots of time in prayer and devotion. Each night I ask myself, "Did I do something meaningful today?"
The second thing I learned from the book was that my pains don't even come close to the pain Jesus Christ endured while being beaten and hung on the cross. In the past, I felt very timid when meeting prospects for my business. The pain lingered in my stomach as I was too shy to talk to people. Then, I would remember that Jesus experienced much, much more pain than I ever had. It gave the courage to meet new people to move my business forward.
Another thing I learned was that most of the events I had previously had in my daily schedule were present-based events. I was spending way too much time "pretending" to be productive. I
am a college student and the example you had used about "studying" applied to me perfectly. I would spend too much time on Facebook and YouTube while doing my homework that it would take me nearly three times longer to complete my homework than if I had no distractions. I learned to get the necessary events out of the way before I can "waste" my time on the internet!
Thanks again for your help and for listening to me! Casey
Terry, I just finished reading your book. I was immpressed and it took me only a coouple of days to finish it. It was given to me by a guy named Dave Johnson in Washington. He is a Nikken rep and we have talked a few times.
onething i really liked about your book was the quotes on every page. Especially the founding father qoutes. The three most important things I learned were;
1. Just start doing what needs to be done. No excuses. This is probably the most important thing. People need to be honest and just do it. I found it interesting about the 10 Formulas that get people to do what they need to do, and I can relate to almost everyone of them. I probably find myself in the "Consequence" formula the most. I need to start moving for the right reasons and just get going.
2. Plan and organize the things in my life on a priority scale. I liked that Future-Based vs. present-based events. Although this is still a bit foreign (future vs. present) I still do make a list of things needing time and effort. I still set goals and carry a small booklet (my own personal planner). Basically the program you set up (not as in depth and elaberate) but you gave it a name and wrote a book for it.
3. Victory Valleys can and do happen. I am very familiar with those valleys but had never given them a name or consideration. You chapter on this was enlightening.
So I decided to drop you a note and let you know that I read and digested your book. I still need to apply the knowledge. Instead of just storing it, I need to actually use it and apply it.
It is our habits that determine our future and I think I need to make better habits. I have a few very good ones that can help. So it is just a matter of applying a few more to get at what I am trying to accomplish. What am I trying to accomplish? This is a very good question and perhaps I can set aside another email to discuss that topic.
Thanks for your time and thanks for writting a great book.
Chris

Dear Terry, here's what I learned this time.
1. Do what's important to my future first that's in my baskets.
2. Consequence, treat my business calls like a job or I won't get a paycheck.
3. We can't say I don't have time, it's that it's just not important to us at the present time.
Thanks, Edna (International Leadership Development Affilate)
Terry Gogna,
Thank you for your book, "How I can get myself to do what I need to do?" It helped me in a very critical time of my life. I have to say that I'm 23 and a professional poker player and was going through a transition period in my life when I read your book. I had to make an emotional decision to either build a business in multi-level marketing or play poker. I was doing both at the time and it wasn't getting me anywhere. I chose poker because of the immediate income. I know building the business was second, and I know I wasn't quitting. Being a poker player, I don't have a boss to push me. I make my own schedule, but I needed something extra. I wasn't getting where I wanted in life and something had to change. As I said before, thank you for your book. It has changed my life for the best.
On to the three most important things I learned.
1) Identifying present based and future based events. I had to make poker the only thing in life and all my other activities are not as important. I had to make a lot of sacrifices. I turned off my cell phone and put it in the closet because I was texting too much. I forgot to mention I play poker online, so my computer is my most valuable asset to me. I had to uninstall instant messaging programs like AIM and deleted myspace and facebook accounts. All those sacrifices were because they weren't future based events.
2) Writing and saying affirmations. I went to the office store and bought note cards so I would jot down what I need to say. It's keeping a positive mindset in my life when I'll be the first to tell you I can roam in negative past experiences. I also printed them off and have them in my room and bathroom so I see it constantly.
3) Number 3 of the Strategic Formulas. I was reading give $200 to some you trust and set a goal. If I don't reach that goal, then they can have the money. That hit me hard. This will push me to get my poker hours in for the month because I have something to fight for.
I didn't think my e-mail would be this long, but I'm glad it is. I see myself grow so much in the past 30 days. Again thank you. Steven

My name is Saul. I reside in East Los Angeles, California. When I I was first given this book by my life coach I thought, "What a horrible title?" If I already cant get me to read a book, how will I get myself to read this one. So I did, read it I mean. The part that impacted me the most was chapter 12. It is amazing how you outlined the Dreams, truly amazing. I made a presentation of the strategic formulas, Your explanation on the gladiator was great. My mom came from Mexico in 1966, times were tough and she was chasing the American Dream. She is my hero, she went through crap crossing over and her experiences in Mexico. Anyway, when I have to do something I think of her. I think of the consequence, the pain of living my life paycheck to paycheck, accountability to my life coach, positive past and my daily dialogue with God. Thank you for that chapter. I believe with all of my heart that people lack a vision, or even initiative because of their why. Thanks again.

I have to tell you that I really enjoyed reading your book. It provides so many nuggets that can be used for personal development and help reach our goals. My son and daughter who are in their 20's also enjoyed your book and are implementing the suggestion you gave at the end of the book.
Thanks for writing such a wonderful book.

Hi Mr. Gogna,
The three most important things that I have learned from reading this book are:
1. Organization habits/ Proper planning
2. (Daily) Habits to create my future
3. Mindset: always striving for personal growth by reading and listening to personal growth books and educational CDs
I chose these as my top three because they are the foundation in which I will create my future. It will help me personally and professionally as I apply what I learn as well as referring to How can I get myself to do what I need to do? as a guide and/or an aid.
The book was a great teaching as well as a great read!
Sincerely,
Danielle

1. PEM System! After having a baby! Well it is possible! It taught me how to finally settle some to dos at a certain time in my life every day. I have time now to work things in.
2. It’s great to do affirmations to show you can achieve your dreams and goals, but if you’re not striving to get them done, you’re wasting valuable time reading them. Just do it!
3. Don’t just ask God to do everything, help yourself ! Help him help you!
Sincerely, Edna

Hi Terry,
My name is Tony and I was on the call last night (Wednesday, Aug. 27) with Success University. I need to tell you that your presentation was very fantastic. I enjoyed every bit of it. Thank you for breaking it down! I went to your website to listen once again to your interview, it was also amazing.

Hello Terry,
I recently read your book "How can I get myself to do what I need to do?". It is an absolutely an incredible book which really put a lot of things in perspective for me. Infact, it made me more cognizant of few things that I had always been aware of.
- My Daily activities and my time spent.
- My thoughts and my awareness of whether they are positive creating a great future for me or negative.
- My Daily affirmations which control my thoughts and actions.
I would like extend my heartfelt thanks for putting it all together in such an incredible way.
I have another question. I have a 9 year old girl, she is very comfortable with kids and at school. However, I noticed a great level of shyness when she is around elders or even a new environment. Can you please advise which books you have recommended your son to grow out of his shyness and build her up into a confident young girl.
Thank You very much. Haritha
Hello Terry,
My name is Fahad and I am a senior at DePaul University in Chicago studying Psychology. First of all, I would like to thank you for sharing such great incite on the topic of becoming a successful person. Your book "How Can I Get Myself to Do What I Need to Do" definitely helped me build parts of my self - image. One of the things I have learned from your book is the idea that "time management" doesn't really exist. You said that we manage the tasks we do rather than have the ability to manage "time." I saw what you meant by that because in reality, we always put time for the IMPORTANT things in life. I will absolutely take that idea into consideration when accomplishing multiple tasks. I should not ever have an excuse for anything. I also learned the importance of talking with God and expressing what you want. I remember how I would keep many things in my head knowing that God can tell what I am thinking, but when you said that He may WANT us to express those thoughts rather than keep it in, I definitely changed my way of interacting with Him. I feel a need to let it out more and get closer with Him. Another thing I learned from your book is that your mindset determines how much success you will gain. As in your example about making prospecting calls, for the professional the first call should be the breakaway call, rather than every call just being a roadblock. It should enable the second call to become much easier. If I cause my mind to stay focused and think positively, then I won't lose track of what I am doing. Even when writing this email out to you I thought, "If I do write out what I learned right now instead of later, then I will be able to reflect on myself now and actually apply what I learned as soon as possible" So thank you once again Terry for teaching such beneficial ideas. I will definitely take them into account when building my future of success. Take care and all the best to you and your family. Good bye.
Fahad
Hi Terry,
"How can I get myself to do what I need to do?" came just in time for me to utilize your knowledge. The three things I got out of reading your book. 1. I've learned how to manage my events. 2. I discovered the self I didn't know. 3. Knowing how to be a secure person in my perfessional environment.
Thank you, Terry, your personal testimonial truly inspired me. God bless you and your family exceedingly. I'm new Christian and your experiencing God has moved my heart. Praise God.

The top three most important things I have learned from reading this book are:
1. It is important to determine what events in your life are present based events and which ones are future based events. You will also have two other important types of events that you must input into your calendar and the first of those are fixed events such as walking the dog, feeding the cat, and going to work. The other type of event are flexible events which includes whatever time you have left after you have filled the other events in. The most important statement I took in regards to this is on page 26 and it states; “The secret to why the P.E.M. system works so well is that it focuses you on what’s important first. ALWAYS INPUT THAT WHICH CREATES YOUR FUTURE then fit everything else into the rest of the time available.
2. In Chapter 12 “There is no such thing as a secure job or business, there are only secure people” I found two things very helpful to me for normal daily life as well as in business. The first was a story in the beginning of the chapter about Terry looking to apply for a job in the employment recruiting industry. Up until that point he had never worked a job, only owning his own business so he had no resume established. When going to the interview both the receptionist and the hiring manager were disappointed to see that he didn’t have a resume so she asked him “So why are you looking for a job in this industry and why should I hire you?” He replied:
I’m looking for a career change.
I’ve researched this industry and I know you can make a lot of money in it.
I’m not shy.
People don’t intimidate me no matter how much money they make.
I can talk to anyone on the phone.
I can take rejection.
I’ve read a lot of personal growth books.
I don’t have a problem with my self esteem.
I don’t need someone to motivate me.
I set goals for myself in everything that I do……..and the list continues on page 119.
This section was powerful to me because he states over and over that we must be secure in ourselves and our abilities to achieve our dreams. When you believe in yourself, so will everyone else.
3. Finally the last thing I took away from the book is MY formula for getting myself to do what I need to do. It’s not that I don’t know what I need to do but there were many days where I found myself procrastinating or simply being lazy. In my mind, somewhere I would allow myself to believe that I would just do whatever was being held off later. Later never came unfortunately so I continued to “sleep with my giant” (see pg.31). Day after day it ate away at me until I started to feel the pain that made me ache without even thinking twice. My formula for success is my pain; exactly why I will grow my business and be a valuable asset to my spouse is simply because I don’t want to spend another 45 years in a cubicle. I would much rather focus on what I would like to do instead so I can use the power of attraction to get that dream closer and closer to becoming a reality. The sick feeling I get in the pit of my stomach from knowing I’m not free, I still owe bills and there are so many people and animals I can’t help because I don’t have enough money makes all my efforts seem minute in comparison to my goal-being in charge of my life and not my boss.
How have these three topics helped me?
The first topic has helped me because I have never truly managed a calendar. I never really knew how or what kind of calendar was most appropriate for my life. After reading the chapter about the different types of events and how to prioritize I was able to visualize more clearly just how ineffective I have been over the last 15 years. Time management is such an important part of success that if you don’t know how to manage your time you will be one of those people that claims “I just don’t have enough time”. By doing only those things that impact my future I have been more successful in my business and helped others do the same through duplication.
The second topic has helped me realize that I must be secure in who I am and where I’m going. I have to know that no matter what anyone else thinks all I have is my word and my work ethic and if I am clear on what I stand for, where I come from and who I am because I’m constantly getting better I will be unstoppable.
Finally, acknowledging which formula is the key to making me move closer to my dreams was my initial purpose for reading the book. I really wanted to know what others knew and how others got through times of procrastination and struggles with ineffective behaviors. I know now that I am not happy where I am and if I can’t meet God at the gates happy about the path I’m on right now I have to make a change immediately. I know in order for me to help God with his purpose for my life I have to be willing to endure. I know in my heart the pain I feel from rejection, disappointment and struggles with my business or people in general could never compare to the feeling I would have if I lived the rest of my life never having been my own boss.

I received your book, How can I get myself to do what I need to do? as part of our WIN monthly personal development pack. The 3 most important things I learned were:
1. In formulating my "gladiator statement" I discovered the order of important of the things in my life.
2. After reading the section on Dream formula, I was finally able to find a picture to put up to remind me of my dream. I was having trouble visualizing this before.
3. How to think and act more secure. Strangers or most people are not watching and talking about me.
These ideas are not really new to me, as my mentors tell me this all the time, but by reading them this time a "light" came on.
Thank you
Lyn
Terry:
I've been asking myself: "How can I get myself to do what I need to do?" then I received this book - saw the invitation to write (page II - in the introduction) and I thought - should I write?
I don't know - would an author really, ever read even one e-mail, from the [probably] thousands
he gets?
I'm 63 years old, just became a grandma this year, before my birthday, I'm not into e-mail and all that teckie stuff... but... I took "flexible" time (page 26) to read your book and didn't get my housework done... but the columns are filled with all the things... I'd like to do... (page 27) I get off track with distractions and interruptions (page 41) that's where I loose out on making progress.
If I make a list... I do better, and If I show my husband [what you would call my P.E.M.] my list,
(page 46) then he can see that I'm not planning to take up his whole day... because I can see
his P.E.M. has other things too.
An Example of Flexible Time:
His list: E-mail
My list: Do dishes
Our together list: You mow, I rake. [it's more fun when we work together] (page 28)
[it's not always easy but it's more productive] (page II - introduction) & important (page 42)
and like you said, "There is always time for every important thing in your life." Terry Gogna
Sometimes I ask: what seeds are we planting? Does our future have a heavenly perspective? (page 49) The battle for a man's soul has a much greater consequence than mere guilt (page 33)
There is a hell to shun and a heaven to gain. What greater reward to strive for then heaven?
interruptions and distractions are where I loose out on making progress (page 41) like the old
song that says: ..."like a ship without a sail..." I call it Excuses and Distractions on (page 51) Early to bed and early to rise, eat healthy and exercise are all disciplines we need to work on. (page52 - 55) good advice! Even getting up for church on Sunday morning is a discipline. Your illustration of two things they don't like (page 59) Mark Twain's solution: "do something every day that you don't want to." (page 26) fits in with your idea that we need to adjust.
Good book.

Hi Mr. Gogna,
My name is Shoni and I am with the Britt WorldWide System. I just got finished reading your book "How can I get myself to do...................." This is such a phenomenal book and I want to thank you for writing it. Its so funny that right before we read the book, I had been promoting my own "TO DO LIST" to the team for a long long time. After getting tired of coming up short in certain areas a few of them began implementing this TO DO LIST and have found it so so helpful and have become totally committed to using it. So when we read about the P.E.M System it just fell in line with everything that we are aiming to accomplish. In addition to that, I really found a lot of value in understanding "There is no such thing as a secure job or business, There are only secure people. Also I loved the way you handled your sons objection of going to the University and how you explained what having a degree meant to an employer.
Although I am productively active and get some positive results I can afford to step it up a notch and with a little more enthusiasm and passion. I now know that maybe I need a new dream and I definately have to discover what "stirs my soul." And as you suggested I am in the process of figuring what areas of my life I have to look into to really discover that new dream. So thank you again and May GOD continue to bless you
Shoni
Terry -
On pages 160-161 you talk about the FINEST HOUR. A few weeks ago, as I was driving into our church parking lot, I had an image of the Apollo 13 mission conductor (via the movie) declaring to his staff in the face of the imminent disaster that this would be their FINEST HOUR. I shared this with the congregation in another context. In reading your book, the words FINEST HOUR hit me again. The words at the bottom of page 161 describing struggle and the like were very relatable. Also the DECISION to HANG IN THERE and DO WHAT NEEDS DONE was the shot that I needed.
The account of your struggles to make calls on pages 138-140 also hit home. I read your book as a result of being on the BWW business team associated with Quixtar / Amway Global. I am in the process of overcoming the sorts of distractions that you describe in your own journey. A determination is arising in me to simply get the job done....I need to have my wife free from work obligations, I want bills paid and want to enjoy time freedom.
Finally, the GLADIATOR STATEMENT was beneficial as well. I am 50 years old and due to my association with BWW, reading books (typically at a pace of 1 per week), attending seminars, and listening to a variety of CD's (from the business and others) I have been transformed into a new person in the past three years. I have been and will always be a work in progress. Many things are occurring in my life that quite honestly would have "sunk my submarine" several years ago. The challenges are even greater than they were at that time, however I see myself as a victor for the first time in my life I know who I am first of all in Christ and also in relation to being in touch with the seeds of greatness He has placed in me.
Thanks for once again being a contributor to the tapestry that is being woven in my life....your book was very helpful and I am going to look at how to apply the information...Bruce
Dear Terry,
Thank you so very much. You have indeed influenced my thought process greatly and I have committed to reinvest my energies to live a life of significance.
On the PEM system, I implemented it on one day, last Thursday and the results were fabulous! I got things done pretty much according to my plan which included Exercise, Prayers, Work, Commuting, Reading, Prospecting, attending a business meeting & even a few mins. of meditation before bed!! One of the most productive days in my life. I have started the same routine today and am sure to maintain it all the days of my life. I believe that with continued adherence to the PEM system, I will soon write to you thanking you about the success I have achieved.
In gratitude and Wishing you Gods favor in everything you do,
Sincerely,
Venkatesh
Hi Terry,
I'm Karthik living in New york. I just completed your book "How can I get myself do what i need to do". Its explains lot of stuff with very simple examples to relate to. I learned a lot from this book, below are the top 3 which i learned
1) The value of time - We can't control time and we can control the events.
2) Don't procastinate and do the future activity when u don't feel like doing it.
3) Gladiator statement and the positive past. (I thought of some of my positive past and it was amazing to see what was behind my success in those activities, I'm going to put everything in paper)
I'm going to follow the PEM system completely and will keep you updated on my success.
Thanks, Karthik
Dear Terry,
Thank you very much for making this book happened. Before I read this book I know that if I do what I need to it I will succeed eventually, but somehow I could not keep myself doing those things consistant and persistent. Now in my bedroom I put a note say " I am a schedule-driven person ". It keeps me alert whenever I see it. The most 3 things I learned from your book are
1. It helps me to increase the number of people I prospecting for my business from 15 numbers per month to 40 numbers per months. Now I see my business growing faster
2. I came to the United Stated to fullfill my dream. The first and most important of all is I cannot put my parents down and I'll buy a luxury car for them. If I keep increase the number of prospecting, not long I will get what I want. I know how because I did it once last month and I will keep doing it by apply the knowledge I learned from the book
3. I will transfer my knowledge to people I know especially my brother and my sister whom I love the most
Best Regards, Pychet
Dear Mr. Gogna,
All of us want to accomplish important things in life. And most, if not all of us, realize that, at times, we seem to be short on that elusive and difficult to control entity called... TIME. And then we struggle all our lives to do something which, so elegantly, you demonstrate in your book to be ...impossible, and that is to control... TIME.
" I don't have time", " I wish I had more time", "I'm short on time" are expressions which every single one of us has used, at one time re another. That represented ... our reality ! Our ...PARADIGM ! And we all were very unhappy because of that, and attempted to fix the problem by reading about or attending lectures and seminars on... TIME MANAGEMENT.
Little did we think that since one cannot control the flow of TIME one cannot ...manage it as a result.
And then..... here comes your book. In simple, good for everyone to understand, terms you offer us a PARADIGM CHANGE, and then a system to take control of what we call ... "LACK OF TIME". As you state in one of your chapters.... THERE IS ALWAYS TIME FOR EVERY IMPORTANT THING IN ONE'S LIFE !
For me, the main idea of the book, which I believe will impact anybody who will read it, is the fact that we may not be able to manage time, yet we CAN manage "the events" which unfold, as time flows.
We can establish priorities based on what the value of those "events" is, as we look at them from the point of view of what... THE EVENTS WILL OFFER US IN THE FUTURE.
This simple, yet masterful idea alone is worth many times over the price of your book.
One extremely important thing I got out of your book is to "always do first that which creates the future you desire".
Most of us, in this life, are busy. Yet, in a simple and influential style, you reorient us to start thinking about ... "how productive"... we really are. The idea of looking at our activities through the "looking glass" of the "future value of what we do today", is something we may think we do, yet we may find out that this is not what actually really happens.
In aggregate, I see your book and the system of "event management" you created as being of tremendous value for anyone who, at one time or another, felt..... SHORT OF TIME !
Which I believe is... every single one of us, at one time or another.
I would encourage those who contemplate buying the book .....to BUY IT !
Yet, don't just read it !
Buy it and… STUDY IT !
And more than anything... APPLY IT !

Hi Terry,
I was reading the section where you were at a point in your life where you had so many questions about everything. You also mention you had habits which you were not proud of. I am in a similar situation. You mention that a certain pastor brought all these into perspective, maybe you are the 'pastor' of my life?
I am from Chennai, India. All through my life I have been protected by God although my childhood has several unpleasant situations. However, I never gave my 100% to anything. I was a good student, good son, good employee, etc but never realized my full potential in anything, although I knew that I had a lot more left in me. all what I have achieved, I have done at maybe 50% effort. Always, it seemed that my efforts helped somebody else rather than me. I am married with two great boys and migrated to Canada 8 years ago after working in Dubai for 5 years. Since I came to Canada I work in the IT consulting field. I took a break to run my own restaurant which led to difficult times. Since then, I have become an independent distributor of Quixtar. I love the concept, the people, the products but in the last little while I have not been able to proceed beyond a initial level.
Thanks for creating an excellent book! It presented so well and concisely in a manner that makes it a pleasure to read. The quotes on each page is a great idea too. I am re-reading the book to make sure that I start applying what I have learnt. I am sure that I will continue to use the methods suggested all through my life, Thanks again to you.
Simon - Student (15yrs of age), UK
The top three things I learnt... well to be honest, there is not a “top three” but because this book is so excellent I cannot choose only three points as I have learnt so much from reading it. Being 15yrs old I see books as not the most interesting thing to do in my spare time however, books that will develop me as a person and will make me realise the good things and bad things about my personality really appeals to me. I like developing my personality into the best it can be and this book provided me to increase my mental strength.
I have many exams which I have to succeed in and lucky for me I read this book at the perfect time as it has not only given me motivation to study for my exams but has given me an insight into what I need to do to succeed in my studying for them and why when I try to complete tasks what I do that distracts me, and how to tackle these distractions. If any teenager reads this testimonial I strongly recommend that they read this book as it will help them so much in their life.
My favourite part of the book was chapter 12 as I totally agree with what Terry Gogna has written. It has made me realise how powerful a "secure person" can be and how mental strength and self confidence can help you be at an advantage to the rest of the people around you. I have one thing to say to Terry and that is thank you for providing me with your knowledge and I have not only read this book once but the things I found really interesting I read over again until I fully understood what you are trying to say in detail.
For so long I have wondered why I always get scared when I walk down the street and see another person walking towards me? Why do I get intimidated and look at the ground and stay so far away from him? I thought just like you did that every person was looking at me and judging me for what I was wearing, how I was walking and talking? When I read your book on page 130 and 131 my first thought was "that's exactly how I am!" Although I figured out how to become self confident before reading your book the only thing I could not figure out was WHY I felt so intimidated walking down the streets by myself and why did I become so intimidated?
I used to say to myself look how big I am and I’m acting like this!!! I thought the only way for me to become less intimidated was to become strong (training in the gym) that is why the main cause for me training is because I did not want to feel intimidated by the people around me but now I understand that I need to become mentally strong as well. Your book made me realise why I feel so intimidated.
Finally, many teachers have doubted my educational ability and under estimated me but I now thrive on this. When a teacher says "Simon, your predicted a B for your O levels" I say to myself "no, YOU think I’m predicted a B for my O levels, but I AM predicted an A for my O levels as I know what I can achieve.” So far in my O levels I have achieved great success scoring above my OWN predicted grades and achieving A* in all my exams. Your book has helped me motivate myself to want achieve more grades like this and as I have exams coming up I know that I can achieve the highest grades! Thank you for making me understand myself better.

Hi Terry, your book is fantastic! What deep insight you have! I will read it over and over.
The top 3 things I learned from the book.
1. I learned that there is a solution to get out of the rut, or off the ‘bus’, as you put it, because the scenery is not changing when I look out of the window. I need to divide my daily activities into Future-Based and Present-Based events.
2. Talk to God. I realized that I have no close friends to bounce things off of since coming to Canada. I did have friends when I was younger and we always shared our deepest secrets or troubles. We could always help each other move on. I really miss that kind of relationship with someone. I realized just within the last year or two that I do have God to share with and I tried and I remember it does make a difference somehow. But, I am not consistent and I tend to forget to try to have give and take with Him.
3. I need to discover what it would be to get me to do what I need to do. My dreams don’t seem to motivate me. I will study again the 10 Strategic Formulas. I think that was the most profound part of the book. I never could solve why a dream or something I really, really want could never motivate me to do what I need to do to get it.
I didn’t look at the P.E.M. system yet. But an amazing thing about this is that my husband gave me this book to read just 2 days after I sat down and tried to make a daily schedule to see how I could get more done in a day and a week. I was looking through drawers for day timers and found that the time slots on them are not broken down into small enough time increments. You are right, sometimes a task only takes 15 minutes to do. In fact, I read this book in the morning between 6:20 and 7 a.m. I woke up “my first son” at 6 and went to the kitchen to pack his and “my second son’s” lunch boxes for school. Usually when I was done, I would drink coffee and look at store flyers until 7a.m. when I drove him to the end of the driveway to get the bus. I picked up this book one morning and started reading. It was so interesting; I didn’t want to put it down! I left it in the kitchen and read it each morning and also while waiting on something to cook while I was making dinner.
Thank you Terry. If this doesn’t become a top seller I will be surprised.

The Best Christmas Gift for 2008 - Managing your time, December 18th, 2007 by Rational
Christmas is coming and so is 2008 and one of the greatest curses for us humans is getting better at managing our time and responsibilities. I came across this great little book that makes it all simple and I wanted to share the idea with you. It’s called “How can I get myself to do what I need to do?” - By Terry Gogna
This is really easy to read, and easy to grasp. I think you’ll find it invaluable and NO I do not get a kick back, I just thought it was really neat, and could make everyone’s New Year a more manageable and productive new year. Usually people talk about gifts as things, but how about giving more time. I am sure your loved ones and co-workers will appreciate it.
The Best chapter was - There is ALWAYS Time for EVERY important thing in your life.
Enjoy

Top three most important things I learned from your book
1. As Albert Einstein Quotes from your book "Try to become not a man of success, but rather to become a man of value" So all the nuggets and skills I have been picking up along my journey is to be more valuable.
2. That future based events are the only ones that will bring me to my altitude i.e. prospecting calls
3. From your quote "Your results are your only true proof of your efforts" I know that I need to step up my game. I feel that this last year: listening to CDs, reading books, going to seminars and having a Success coach has prepared me for my next rung in the ladder, which will give me fantastic results in 2008!
Richard & Pat - Business Owners, USA
Terry,
We both read and reread the book right away and have been taking a number of notes on the side. From this book we learned that we don't manage time, we manage events. We have also learned that when we focus on future based events, we achieve our most important goals.
A key point we got from the book was to learn to see the single events that will either make or break us in our future performances. We really liked how you identified the key future based events in the area of health, spiritual, financial and relationships. We were looking after our health in many of the other areas with the exception of exercise. And exercise is definitely a future based event. Pat and I now have a personal trainer at a local fitness facility which we attend for workouts at least twice a week. We also feel that prayer time is the future based event for our spiritual growth as well. You are so very right when you identify Prospecting Calls to be the future based event for us financially. We also realize that if we focus on the future based event of family time, we will most likely get all the other personal relationships achieved as well.
We have already begun to use the "MCR" Technique on a regular basis. We were developing the proper Mindset, but we were coming up short on the creating a Consequence and then creating a Reward. Now when we come home in the evening after a day of prospecting, coaching and business plans, we like to reward ourselves with watching a relaxing type video (our reward).
However, before watching the video, we make sure we get our daily activities logged into our computers, and develop our next days scheduling to follow up on our commitments we made during our day's activities. I am now developing some small rewards for making my prospecting calls earlier in the day.
In the book you identified that positive affirmations prepare our mind for performance, but these affirmations must be accompanied with proper and effective action in order for us to achieve our desired performances. I now have a new affirmation which I got from your book on page 32,
“I always do first, that which creates my future.”

Hi Terry,
Excellent layout of your book and the P.E.M. system is a powerful, helpful concept. Probably no surprise to you, a patient yesterday literally repeated the title of your book in a rhetorical question to herself. I lent her the book and she was grateful.
Anil - Student (13yrs of age), UK
Hi,
I really enjoyed reading the book and would give it a rating of 5 out of 5!
My favourite 3 parts of the book were:
1. The part about how you failed your A-Levels because from that I have learn that if I leave all of my revision until the last minute I will not do very well.
2. I also liked the part about when you told us that your dad was unable to read or write english so that meant he was unable to fill in that cheque so he told the person to write the cheque themselves. From that I learnt that if you act confident (even when you don't feel it!) then you can acheive what you are reaching for.
3. The part I liked the most was the four hour work routine because it is 100% true because thats what I do most of the time because first I clean my desk, then I load up my computer, then I check my email and the list goes on, then by the time I've finished that and start my actual work I do a little bit but say that I've done a lot because of how long I've thought I've been studying when really I haven't!

Hi Terry,
After reading your book and taking about a week to apply your P.E.M. System, I have to say… you have absolutely, positively changed my life. Up until now, my entire life I always procrastinated and I actually made up the excuse that I get better results when I am under pressure.
Last April I decided to leave my full-time job to run my business from home – more importantly to become a full-time Dad. With 2 young children at home, I certainly had my hands full and quickly found myself overwhelmed by the daily routine of cleaning, cooking, doing dishes, etc… These urgent events took over and I would use it as an excuse for not getting anything done towards developing my business.
Fast-forward to October. My daughter Abigail (2) was diagnosed with Leukemia and as devastating as this news was, my wife and I pulled together in strength to do what was necessary to get her healthy again. After 30 days in the hospital and at least 4 visits to the clinic each week since then, our priorities had changed. If I was struggling to grow my business back in April, I suppose you can imagine how I felt now. Looking back I truly believe that a higher power made it possible to leave my job so that I could be available for my daughter when she needed me most.
What I discovered with your book and the P.E.M. System was a way to manage the priority events in my life. My daughter’s weekly treatment is now scheduled as a "future-based" event as the outcome is her 100% health. I have now found a way to organize my day around my "future-based" events and prevent procrastination. Even in a time of family crisis, I was actually able to find more time in my day to get everything I needed to get done – even more so now than in April.
You are truly going to help millions of people with this information – you have found a cure to this epidemic called procrastination.
Terry, you’ve changed my life in more ways than you’ll ever know – you’ve given me and my family our futures back. Thank you.
George - Quixtar Diamond Business Owner, USA
Hello Terry,
I loved your book.
I appreciate your fresh perspectives and keen insights.
One of the better books I have read in several years.
